Recent research also shows that one-fifth of millennials are actually rejecting potential employers due to dull and uninspiring office layouts. Millennials are already the largest segment in the workplace which makes it crucial that companies cater to the younger generation and what they look for in a workplace which is flexibility, modernized offices, and improved collaboration. Benefits of a Millennial Office Space Switching to a millennial office space can have many benefits including the following: Employee and talent retention Sustainability Stronger collaborative workforce Attracts millennials Makes workers happier Creates a positive working environment Increased productivity and morale Efficient use of space How to Improve Your Workspace Whether youâre an employer looking to retain your staff, are self-employed or work from home; making a few simple yet effective changes to your workspace can have massive, positive results. As a business, switching to a millennial office space will help you attract some of the top talent in your industry, make you stand out amongst competitors, promote a positive company image, create a stronger collaborative workforce and also improve morale. Here are a few things to focus on when designing your millennial office space: Bright color scheme and plants â" the colour is proven to have a huge impact on our mood, motivation and productivity levels while plants can help reduce stress levels. Natural light natural lighting is known for having a positive impact on wellness, mental health, and productivity. Artificial light can also have a negative effect on those working in an office, so if it can be avoided always opt for natural light. Increased space open spaces prevent employees from feeling trapped or claustrophobic in their workspace. Clear, clutter-free spaces with plenty of room for movement and collaboration will mean people arenât restricted. Clutter also makes us feel more stressed, so minimal furniture is always best. Multi-functional desks invest in a sit/stand desk to allow people to have flexibility and versatility within their workspace. This will improve their physical and mental health by keeping them active and energized. Ideal room temperature nobody can work in a room that is too hot or too cold, therefore finding the right balance is key. 21 degrees Celsius is said to be the perfect temperature to work in and also improves productivity and focus. It will also ensure that your staff are happy and comfortable at all times. Updated technology up to date systems and technology is required for millennials due to how tech-savvy they all are! Multiple computer screens were also shown to increase productivity amongst employees by 50%. Hot Desking Being committed to a desk and seat in an office environment is a dated concept that not many people are actually a fan of. Unless youâre happy with who youâre sitting next to and donât like change, you may end up feeling tied to your desk. 7 psychological tips to land you the job you want
7 psychological tips to land you the job you want Job interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences, especially when itâs for a job that you really want. Youâve done the research on the company, youâve applied, and youâve spent hours trying to decide whether to buy a new outfit or see the best dentist to have your teeth fixed for a brighter smile â" and now youâve got the call for an interview! But how can you be sure that youâll be the perfect candidate for the job, or stand out enough to go up against plenty of others with the same qualifications? Luckily, there are some psychological tips you can use to land the job you want, and weâve listed some below. Pick the right interview time According to studies, 10:30am on a Tuesday morning is the best time for your interview â" not so much for you, but for your interviewer. If youâre given the opportunity to pick your interview time, see if they have a slot at around 10:30 on a Tuesday. It will be late enough in the day that your interviewer wonât be thinking about everything else they have to do, and early enough that they wonât be thinking about going home. Match the colour of your outfit to what you want to project Certain colours are said to link to different moods. For a logical/analytical feel, Grey is the best colour to choose for your outfit. White suggests you are organised, Brown gives off a feeling that youâre dependable, while Red is the colour to put across power. If youâre applying for a higher up position, Red can be a good choice, but be careful if youâre applying for an entry-level job. Find something in common with the interviewer The Similarity-attraction hypothesis suggests that we tend to be drawn to people that are similar to us and share similar attitudes. If you can, pick up on something that you and your interviewer have in common, utilise it. It will put you both at ease. Mirror the interviewerâs body language The chameleon effect suggests that we are more likely to like and feel comfortable around someone when theyâre exhibiting similar body language. It should look like youâre moving with the other person as opposed to against them, or it might seem like youâre lying, arenât a team player or simply arenât interested in what theyâre saying. Look your interviewer in the eye when you first meet them Making eye contact from the offset makes you seem far more confident than if you avoid looking at them completely. It will help you appear smarter and more confident, which are both skills that you most definitely want to convey throughout an interview, and doing this purely through body language can save you words to focus on something else. Talk to yourself! Okay, so we donât mean talk to yourself out loud in front of the interviewer, but talking to yourself in front of a mirror or even mentally can even help you build confidence. Telling yourself that you will enter the room confidently or smile when you meet the interviewer will not only remind you to actually do those things, but add to your confidence too. Donât completely avoid being defensive, but be open about your weaknesses. While many experts will tell you to avoid being defensive, this can actually work in your favour. Of course, itâs important to do it politely, but explaining holes in your CV or insisting that a mistake you have made wonât happen again can come across better and more trustworthy than someone who says nothing at all. Be open about your weaknesses. Provided that your weakness wouldnât hinder your ability to do the job completely, most weaknesses can be worked on, and your honesty will work in your favour.

When it rains the price of umbrellas goes... - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
When it rains the price of umbrellas goes... - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Complete this sentence: When it rains, the price of umbrellas goes __. If you guessed up youd be right in most places. But at IKEA stores, youd be wrong. Heres how they price their umbrellas: IKEA umbrellas Sunny Day: $ 10 Rainy Day: $ 3 Yes, on rainy days, umbrellas are cheaper :o) What a nice way to make customers happy. This is no coincidence happiness matters at IKEA. Their founder, Ingvar Kamprad, once said this: Work should always be fun for all colleagues. We all only have one life. A third of life is work. Without desire and fun, work becomes hell. To me, this attitude only makes sense. Making your employees happy makes the business more profitable and making your customers happy keeps them coming back. It aint rocket surgery, and fortunately more and more companies are figuring this out and committing themselves to happiness at work. Your take What about your workplace? Does happiness matter where you work? Does anyone care whether the people and customers are happy? Please write a comment, Id love to know.
